‘What You Will to Be’ by James Allen

You will be what you will to be;
Let failure find its false content
In that poor world, “Environment,”
But spirit scorns it and is free
It masters time, it conquers space;
It cows that boastful trickster, chance,
And bids the tyrant circumstance
Uncrown, and fill a servants place
The human will, that force unseen
The offspring of a deathless soul
Can hew a way to any goal
Though walls of granite intervene
Be not patient in delay
But wait as one who understands;
When spirit rises and commands,
The gods are ready to obey

~ James Allen, (taken from his book ‘As a Man Thinketh.’)

The main concept of this poem and his book is that it is ultimately our thoughts and our will that determine our future. It is never the environment, although it may be a difficult concept to take on at first, It is a far more empowering belief to have than to believe we are subject to the environment.

By filling our minds with positivity and determination to succeed, that is then what we create and experience more of in our world. James Allen saw this over 100 years ago and left us an inspirational legacy in teaching through his writing and poetry.  Thank you James Allen.

Tribute to Nelson Mandela (extracts from essay by Daisaku Ikeda)

Thanking the Spoon

A victory of hope over despair, of shared humanity over hatred, and of justice over inequality… these are my thoughts reflecting on the legacy of Nelson Mandela, who passed away this evening. My admiration for Mandela comes mostly from reading essays by Daisaku Ikeda, leader of the Soka Gakkai Buddhist movement that I belong to.

Mandela heard about Ikeda’s humanistic writings while in prison and after his release requested a meeting with him during a visit to Japan. Here are some extracts from an essay written by Daisaku Ikeda, reflecting on the two dialogues he had with South Africa’s first black President:

Nelson Mandela & Daisaku Ikeda

“There is something very special about Nelson Mandela’s smile. It is honest and pure, full of gentle composure. There isn’t a single line on his face that would suggest anything cold and harsh. And yet it embodies the conviction and strength of character of a man who has…

What Really Matters..?

What really matters

What is important, what really matters? This is something that we all ask on some deeper level. The answer to which invariably comes when that which is important and really matters most has either gone from our lives or changed in some way.

When we think we may have lost something forever or when we do, we can come to realise the meaning and importance of what really matters. It can sometimes take a loss of this kind for us to realise the importance of something or someone in our lives, but it doesn’t have to.

What really matters and is important is slightly different for us all but one thing that can be guaranteed is that we all already have many of these things existing within our lives right now. Our health, the people in life that we love, the moments we have now, it is these gifts in life that really are precious and priceless.

Within our society today there is so much pressure to always be chasing something more and to have something better, as though we somehow require this or need it to be enough, but where does it stop?

Taking time everyday in our lives to really appreciate all we already have is something I now consider to be vital. The moments that are here right now are the most precious of all, the loved ones that are here, the opportunities we have to give and make a difference, this is what really matters.

We will all experience loss at some level in our lives, but we don’t need to have this experience to realise how precious the moments we have right now are.

All gifts exist here in the present moment, when we recognise each and everyone of them our lives are blissful everyday, there is no room for any depression or anxiety in this type of existence. Take a look around you today and notice all you already are and all you already have, this is what really matters.

With much peace and love,

Miranda

Your Health

It is your health that is your real true beauty in life,

So easily given and then more easily taken, it is the real true gift

Value it with your life, for it depends on it so

There are many a people who aren’t even fortunate enough to know

Always remember the real true gift,

It is right there within you; don’t wait for it to fly by

Many a people have done so and then they realise,

That their real true gift was right before their eyes

Many a true scholar have told us these words before

It is now time we listen, for its more important than before

Our world is filled with guises that hide us from this gift

The only way to truly know is from how you feel inside

 So stand up for your life and be true to yourself;

Don’t hide from your health it is your real gift of wealth

For once you really have it, then you will truly know

That the real gift of life is right there before you,

If only  you choose to let it be so

Health and  Health improvement is a huge passion of mine and I’m lucky enough to have been able to pursue this professionally. The above poem I wrote to inspire people to recognise the real value of health, it is unfortunately too often not recognised until our health begins to suffer , and our health really is the greatest gift we have, always treasure it.

Set Yourself Free

Soar

To wait on another is to give away your soul to another

To give over control to another is to pass away your faith to another

So take your control back, take your power back;

It’s the only way forward and there is no way back

Take action based on the best for all,

Not on where others may rise or fall

No matter how much it hurts, just do what is best

For there’s only one way forward and there’s no way back,

You have met with many a struggle before

Now you have the knowledge and you know this way forward

All is new and welcome in this place

All you have to do is choose this true way

Know what it’s like to be in that zone

To be all you can, with all that you know

To own your own life and not be owned by another

You have all you need within you you see; all that you need to now set you free

So choose this higher and equal way, choose the way you want to face

The choice is yours and yours alone

Don’t wait on another to show you this way

We are in control when we choose to be, so take that step now; it will set you free

~ M. L. Adams

A promise

It can be hard to let go

When its become all you know,

When the feeling’s become so strong

That you’ve held on for far too long

Then you realise it’s all a test

So you can really be at your best,

So you can beat all that tries to mistreat you,

Then nothing more can ever defeat you

So when this pattern is finally broken,

It is a promise it will all be forsaken

~ M.L.Adams

Real Beauty

Listen and look,

Beauty is everywhere

This is what’s real

Just listen, look and feel

Use all your senses

To see what is true and real

Beauty is within and around you,

Its everywhere just waiting

For you to listen to look and to feel

Don’t hide or be afraid

From what is true and beautiful and real

Just open your heart and mind

Its within and all around you,

Just listen, look and feel

~ M.L.Adams

The Will to Win

If you want a thing bad enough to go out and fight for it, to work day and night for it, to give up your time, your peace and your sleep for it

If all that you dream and scheme is about it and life seems useless and worthless without it

If you gladly sweat  for, fret for and plan for it  and lose all your terror of the opposition for it

If you simply go after that thing that you want with all of your capacity, strength and sagacity, faith, hope and confidence and stern for tenacity

If neither cold or poverty, famish or gout, sickness or pain of body and brain can keep you away from the thing that you want

If dogged and grim you be size and beget it, with the help of GOD you will get it.

~ Berton Braley

I heard this poem recited by Les Brown at the recent Success 2013 seminar in London, I was really struck by it, not just because of the dynamism of Les Brown but also the truth and power in these words. Les Brown before finishing his speech with this poem told us all the story of how he achieved what he has to date. The words in this poem describe just how he did it, equally so for all those who have risen to the top and inspire us greatly. The journey they go through to get there, all the hard work and effort is often missed or looked over, we can then hold them in this higher or better place that seems unreachable, but actually through their words and actions many of these highly successful and inspirational figures are teaching us exactly how to do it and that with enough focus and persistence anyone can. Here’s to winning, believe you can 🙂
