How being in nature is important for our health

With the current coronavirus pandemic, now more than ever is an important time to reflect on what is and isn’t helpful to our health.

Many of us will have spent much of this year (other than that important exercise time), being cooped up indoors.

‘So just how detrimental can this be to our health’?

It is proven that staying indoors too much actually affects our immune system as we lack the access to normal microbes that help to build our important defence system.

Staying indoors too much also affects our natural circadian rhythm that controls our innate sleep-wake cycle. This is because of the lack of natural sunlight that enables our body to adjust naturally.

Spending time in nature however has the opposite effect as being in nature naturally relaxes us, improving our overall mood and mental health.

One great example of this is forest therapy (shinrin-yoku) which in Japan is now offered as a part of health prescription and advised for overall health improvement.

Results have actually shown that two hours of mindful exploration in a forest can reduce blood pressure, lower stress levels and improve concentration and memory.

Pretty amazing results for some enjoyable time in nature.

Whilst working with personal training and coaching clients we often do our session outdoors in parks and it always enhances the positive effect, as clients feel much more relaxed as well as reporting feeling more positive than when just in the gym or training at home.

Overall if we can make a concertive effort to spend more time in nature we will find it having a positive effect on all areas of our life by leading us to feel healthier and happier thus leading to a healthier society. Spending time in nature also provides a great sanctuary for when times get difficult, of which we all have these.

Please don’t just take my word for it. Give it a try for yourself. Try setting in your schedule regular times each week in which you can spend time in nature and see for yourself what a difference it can make.

Enjoy connecting with the beauty of nature and the natural sounds and you may even discover more about yourself.

Keep Believing

Never let anyone tell you, you can’t do something
Others may try to knock you down,
To throw you out
Or wear you down
But its up to you
No matter what
To be the one
Who keeps going
To be the one; who keeps believing ♡

Just a little inspiration for your goals this year. Life is a way of being, ensure you’re being what you want to be, and doing what you want to be doing 💗 Happy New Year 2021 💗

Fight without Fighting

When you realise there’s ‘nothing’ to fight you don’t need to,

All defence is illusion based on something to protect,

When in reality there is nothing

Realise this and you’re free

To fight without fighting,

Accept all that you see and move freely

Intercept anything particularly in yourself that blocks or threatens this freedom

Most importantly,

Be you;

Be free

Overcoming Fears

The greatest block can be a fear of what people do, say or think,
The greatest advice would be to just discard it,
Why;
People can say anything but in reality
It means nothing
Why;
Opinions change as much and often as the wind;
Yet the truth in your heart
The truth of who you are
That is what always outlasts
No matter how you are portrayed
Or what people say
It is the light that is within;
That always guides your way

9 ways to overcome setbacks

Life can be challenging at times and seem to be filled with setbacks especially in such recent times as some of us may have experienced.

What are some of the ways you can deal with such times effectively in order to overcome them?

The following is some of the ways I have found to be useful to apply in such times;

  1. Take each day step by step-do what you can.
  2. Set mini goals- nothing too big.
  3. Check off those important things you’ve done and recognise your efforts.
  4. Create a gratitude list- every morning and/or evening- list all the things you are grateful for.
  5. Practice being present- be aware of your surroundings- focus in on the sights and sounds.
  6. Find ways to channel your energy- exercise regularly and do what you enjoy.
  7. Connect with others and support and encourage them too.
  8. Spend time in nature.
  9. Have faith- all things change and we always overcome.

All of the above are ways that you can manage in the here and now, as some difficulties can make it hard to look ahead. It is with the daily steps however that things always improve and you can overcome any setback.

Stay strong and focused ♡

The Journey of a Martial Artist

The journey of a martial artist is a tough one, it is that of a warrior. One who is willing to set their mind and spirit on the ability to overcome any obstacle for the sake of moral justice and protection of those who need it most.

It is a journey that tests our character and willpower to the upmost but one that is worth every step of the way, for the courage and integrity it builds within are values that once there are always within you.

These values and many others are built along the journey. As a Martial Artist grows and are tested throughout the way, their belt begins as white and gradually become darker over time with all the effort put in; then further over many more years it returns to white again.

Why is this and what does it symbolise;

Throughout the journey of toil and effort we grow stronger and our belt is soiled, then further and further it begins to fade. We then reach a time where we no longer fight as our intuition is so developed we realise we need not fight, and as any great martial artist knows the highest skill is to not have to fight at all. To sense an opponent before he can even engage with you.

The journey is one that always stays with you and these are skills that will always remain a part of you.

Ultimately we return to our original purity; to the source ♡

Your heart knows the way

We don’t need to know or say, only to feel and move

Its our journey and within we always know the way,

Ultimately the heart decides

When we listen within, the way finds us;

We only have to listen to what it says ♡

Black and White are One

What has happened in the last two weeks and to George Floyd is so very sad. Black lives matter, all lives matter and the topic should never even be an issue and needs to be openly exposed.

Why are we so blind to our truth that we are all one, why separate and judge on differences, surely we should have moved on from this, surely it should not be an issue at all. But yet the sad fact is it is, for race, health, age and any other reason it goes on.

There is always another way and I really do hope that one day it will really change completely. Lets do all we can to make it so ♡

We are one

We are one

A whole cycle

One truth;

Just different shades

From white to black,

Black to white;

All in between

Were all the same,

So why judge,

Why segregate?

What you do to another

You do to yourself

So simply see

We are one whole;

All the same

We may be in different places,

Different spaces;

Yet were all the same

Were one whole,

One human race

Life is life

See from the heart

Let go of the strain,

We are all one; deeply the same ♡

Returning to the source

Returning to the source

Finding purity once more

From darkness to light

On to finding true sight

Forever growth

Direct from the source

Always finding a way

Always recognising;

That all here is one;

It always has been

Where only natures truth abides

The source of all;

Such a deeply beautiful soul,

Always one; always whole
